I am a bi-cultural, bi-lingual (English - Greek) Psychologist and Systemic Psychotherapist. My concern is that my clients live their lives to their fullest, thereby becoming assertive, calm, content and fulfilled people.
I was born in Oxford, England and grew up in Athens, Greece. I am bi-cultural and bilingual. I attended an international school where from a young age, I was exposed to a plethora of cultures and am therefore able to appreciate the importance of culture in my line of work, especially in relation to the complications that may arise due to repatriation or marrying into a different culture. I have been a registered psychologist since 2013. I was awarded my Bsc Psychology/Sociology from the University of Surrey, Roehampton in London. Following that, I completed my postgraduate degree in Health Psychology at the University of Stirling in Scotland. Currently, I am undergoing training as a systemic psychotherapist at Logo Psychis- the Training and Research Institute for Systemic Psychotherapy. I am being trained in the S.A.N.E. (System, Attachment, Narrative, Encephalon) model, pioneered by its founding members and am bound by the Institute’s code of ethical conduct. Furthermore, I am a certified Hatha, Vinyasa, Aerial and Yin yoga teacher and I use an assortment of techniques from these kinds of yoga when dealing with symptoms caused by anxiety, depression, panic attacks and PTSD. I also use them to help build self-confidence and self-trust. I have attended numerous seminars and have worked for the Council of Glyfada as well as in various shelters that house vulnerable populations. I adopt an empathic and nurturing role when working with my clients. Non-judgement is of paramount importance. I do not judge what people do, but try help them understand the reasons that led them to do it. Therefore, it is important to be understanding and caring.
My aim is to cultivate a safe place where the client can connect and express themselves so that a therapeutic alliance based on trust can flourish, thereby facilitating healing and growth. I use both a top-down approach as well as a bottom-up approach to therapy. A top-down approach allows talking-therapy to help the client organise their experiences through storytelling which will, in turn, reprogram their nervous system. And, a bottom-up approach again reprograms the nervous system but from a somatic standpoint. Therefore, yoga and breathwork are very helpful for this especially when treating panic attacks.
