Berlin, November 2025. A new study by the digital therapy platform It's Complicated reveals that artificial intelligence (AI) is already entering the therapy space: 52.4 percent of clients report using AI for mental health or wellbeing, while 51.2 percent of private-practice therapists have experimented with AI tools. Despite this, 70.9 percent of therapists remain concerned about the accuracy and reliability of AI in care.
"AI can scale access, but only humans heal. The future of mental-health care is hybrid, innovation supported by ethics, evidence, and humanity."
Johanne Schwensen, Founder & Clinical Chief Officer at It's Complicated
"Clients are already using AI to reflect and regulate emotions. Our responsibility is to ensure these tools support mental-health care without replacing the human bond that makes therapy effective."
Jakob Lusensky, Founder & CEO of It's Complicated
The AI in and Outside the Therapy Room 2025 Report surveyed 225 therapy clients and 80 private-practice therapists between July and September 2025. The research explores how AI tools are currently used for mental-health support and how both groups perceive the opportunities and risks.
