Over the last 10 years, I have developed my expertise in counseling and psychotherapy through rigorous academic research and professional work experience across different sectors. My training as a counsellor has culminated in the award of an MA in counseling and psychotherapy. I am an experienced psychotherapist and mental health crisis services manager with expertise in face-to-face and helpline/online counseling for individuals and groups.
My professional expertise lies in supporting individuals dealing with a range of complex mental health issues, including perinatal mental health, depression, past abuse, trauma, stress, anxiety, motivation, self-esteem, and confidence, and cultural & relational issues. My training is integrative and my approach combines a person-centered core with knowledge of trauma-informed approaches and an understanding of attachment theories, keeping the therapeutic relationship central to the process. I am also experienced in clinical leadership in mental health crisis services and peer/survivor-led mental health services.
I currently also work as a clinical supervisor and development coach for volunteers and as a lecturer in counseling and psychology.
I have provided counseling support on pregnancy, miscarriage, and terminations to women and families which has been an area of focus for me. I have also used play therapy for children under the age of 15 to improve emotional well-being through early interventions.
A big part of my focus has been culturally appropriate therapy and BAME-related therapy.
