About me

What's your story? That is how I like to start my Online Session with a new client. Change has been a constant theme in my life, with my first one being moving from my birth country (the Netherlands) to Germany as a young child. Changing my career path was another profound change: After working 10 years in the tourism and creative industry I quit my Management position, embarked on a solo-backpacking adventure around the world, and eventually went back to uni to become an Art Therapist. I spent a significant amount of my adult life abroad. Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam and Cambodia are some of the countries where I gained insights into life as an expat. I studied in the Netherlands and obtained qualifications in Psychological Counselling and Career Coaching. Today I work as a registered Art Therapist both in-person (in a psychiatry) & online. Creating a space where my clients feel welcomed, heard, understood and empowered is important to me, and I take on English-speaking, German-speaking & Dutch-speaking clients. Topics I specialise in: - Emotions - Dreams - Loss & Bereavement - Boreout - Career Change - Procrastination & Lack of Motivation - Authentic Communication - Values & Meaning - Life Transitions - Belonging - Confronting Fear - Reverse Culture Shock - Survivors Guilt Specialised Programs: - Emotion Counselling for Highly Sensitive People - Dealing with Feelings of Guilt for Expats - Biographical Reflection for (Adult) Third Culture Kids & Cross Culture Kids - Overcoming Boreout - Burnout Prevention for Helpers - Self Care for Relatives of People with Mental or Chronic Dis-eases - Therapeutic Photography & Writing for Digital Nomads - Self Discovery through Art I love the outdoors, and embrace a minimalistic and sustainable, yet fun and not-taking-everything-too-seriously lifestyle. My passions include writing, photography, philosophy, learning, music, thunderstorms and clouds. Learn more about me and my work: www.exploreyourlifestory.com

Approach

Treatment Approaches
Art therapyRecommended for those who feel more comfortable expressing emotions through creativity and want to explore their feelings through art rather than talking.
CounsellingRecommended for those who want to talk through their emotional challenges with a professional in a safe, supportive environment.
Narrative therapyRecommended for those who want to rewrite the way they view their life story and feel more empowered in their personal journey.
My overall approach is person-centered and integrative, combining my knowledge and experience in Art Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Logotherapy. In a free 15-minute-get-to-know-session* we can discuss what mix is the most suitable option for you (conversation-based, art-based, a bit of both). You can choose to book a single-session or a longer-term committment (lower rates), and in case you are curious about the therapeutic power of art-based interventions, you can decide if you prefer having these integrated into the 60-minute videocalls or as an activity for inbetween the sessions. I place a lot of emphasis on active listening and asking thoughtful questions, and bring a lighthearted, encouraging, compassionate and (if appropriate) humourous mindset to my sessions. Here a short overview of the approaches I use: Narrative Therapy A narrative therapist assists clients in finding empowering narratives, that help (re)shape or clarify their identity in a way that is both non-directive and non-intrusive. Narrative Therapy is about exploring your values, reflecting on your beliefs and creating stories about yourself and your life that are helping you navigate past, current and future challenges. Logotherapy (meaning-centered psychotherapy) Logotherapy is about helping people with (a lack of) meaning or purpose in their lives. Problems are elaborated as much as needed, but the focus is on solutions and on new perspectives on what needs to be changed or accepted instead. Art Therapy (art psychotherapy) Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy using different media and selected materials to explore, reflect on and express experiences, thoughts and emotions. It improves self-regulation, relaxation, memory and self reflection. Artistic knowledge or "talent" are not required. I am also trained in ACT, CBT, mindfullness-based therapy and meaning-centred dream analysis. *the 30 Euro for the session is re-imbursed when you later book a regular session or package with me.
