I am a psychologist based in Massachusetts and would be honored to serve some of the Ukrainian community which is struggling in the war. I grew up in NY but was born in Germany and moved here as a young child. Therefore as a first generation American with European parents, one of whom was a refugee from WWII, I have second hand experience of some of the trans generational trauma and struggles associated with being displaced and suffering with significant trauma. I speak some German and grew up in a German speaking household until the age of nine so I would say that I am fairly fluent but still somewhat rudimentary in my German.
I was originally trained in psychodynamically oriented psychotherapy and family systems. However, as time has gone on I have gotten additional training in cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR and increasingly incorporate these modalities into my treatment. My focus is on what works for the individual and how to best help them, first and foremost to develop coping strategies in order to help them to function in their day to day life and then to assist them in moving forward to solve the larger issues they are grappling with.
