Hello there! I am Karla, a counsellor-in-training with a background in clinical psychology and a passion for helping people navigate life.
I grew up in Croatia, and continued my life in the Netherlands. For the past four years, I’ve been sharing my love for (clinical) psychology as a university teacher, but my journey didn’t start there. Before stepping into the classroom, I spent nearly five years volunteering as a counsellor at a child helpline in Croatia. I’ve also had the privilege of supporting mothers and children at a UNICEF refugee centre, and running psycho-social workshops for children in a care home. These experiences have deepened my belief in the power of human connection and support. I am now continuing my passion to work with people on an individual level.
Small joys that enrich my life include having a nice walk, cooking and hosting friends, petting dogs and watching a good movie at the cinema.
Looking forward to meeting you!
Please note that I am not a licensed psychologist/therapist (yet!)
Currently, I’m in training within Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), while my approach is inspired by elements of person-centered therapy and motivational interviewing. My main goal is to create a space to feel safe and supported, to facilitate uncovering your values. Sometimes, you need to make sense of your challenges, and work through obstacles life throws at you, and we can discover this together.
I enjoy reading about existential psychotherapy, schema therapy and ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy).
