As a licensed psychotherapist I help children, adolscents and young adults grow into autonomous, self-confident individuals. I offer therapy and counseling in german and english.
Hi, I'm Melanie. I am currently working as a freelance psychologist and therapist in the netherlands (in-person and online). I hold a graduate masters degree in clinical psychology (Eberhard-Karls- Universität Tübingen, Germany) and a postgraduate certificate in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (IFKV Bad Dürkheim, Germany).
Before starting my private practice, I worked in different mental health settings (clinic, school, social psychiatric practice and online-counseling with teens). I'm experienced in providing professional help with a wide variety of mental health issues, focusing on the practice of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), but also using elements of other evidence-based therapy methods, like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) or Dialectic Behavior Therapy for Adolscents (DBT-A). As the environment always plays a crucial factor in a child's well being, I work closely with parents and caregivers/schools (especially for young children) with a systemic mindset.
What I offer:
Therapy and counseling for children, teenagers and young adults. (Topics can be: Low mood, uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, isolation, depression, (social) anxiety, bullying, transitions to new schools, grief and goodbyes, stress, relationship issues, anger, ADHD, OCD..)
Parents support and counseling (parenting issues, stress and burnout, emotional problems)
Teenagers and young adults (i.e. students abroad) benefit from my Online- Services, when feeling overwhelmed, anxious or emotionally stuck in new situations.
As a mother of two globally raised kids and with my own multicultural background, I'm especially passionate about working with expat families and TCK's (Third Culture Kids - children growing up in countries other than their home country) as well as with A-TCK's (Adult Third Culture Kids, struggling with cultural identity and belonging).
Through Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) we examine how our thoughts and feelings connect to our behaviors (and vice versa). By systematically making changes to this relationship, we can stop unhealthy habits and behaviors and learn new helpful skills to reach our goals. CBT for children uses age-appropriate language and material as well as play, creativity and imagination. While working with your child, there will be sessions for you as a parent every now and then to make you feel more competent in supporting your child in the best possible way.
My sessions are tailored to the individual needs of my (little) clients, providing a safe and comfortable space where feelings and thoughts are being explored and where hidden resources are activated to make each person feel better and more confident in dealing with challenges.
Please contact me to first set up a free 20-30 minute call to see if I can be the right fit for you and your child/teenager.
I look forward to meeting you!
