Empathetic psychologist empowering diverse individuals on their journey to mental wellness. As a non-monogamous queer Nigerian woman, I offer a unique perspective and safe space to embark on your journey to self.
Hello, my name is Nkem, a dedicated and experienced psychologist with a passion for helping individuals achieve their full potential. With a deep-rooted passion for understanding the human mind and behavior, I've devoted my career to guiding individuals on their journey towards improved mental health. I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, empowering them to lead happier and more fulfilling lives. My approach is built on compassion, empathy, and evidence-based practices, ensuring that every individual I work with receives the highest standard of care.
The top priority for a healthy therapeutic experience is the relationship I build with my client. In collaboration, the best therapeutic approach is tailored to your needs; client-focused. The various therapeutic approaches I use are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy (MBCT), schema therapy (ST), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
Prior to my psychology training, I have been an activist creating awareness of the dangers of child sexual abuse in Alexandria, VA, Nigeria, and the diaspora; creating safe spaces for others to share their stories and support one another. I also worked in various Bureaus within the Department of State in the United States.
I am a Nigerian, American, mother, traveler, and queer. I bring a unique blend of personal experience and professional expertise to my practice, creating a safe and empathetic space for clients of diverse identities and backgrounds. I provide a safe space and a listening ear for you to communicate your story openly and honestly.
I can guide you in reconnecting with yourself by creating a safe space to listen to your story because you matter. There are times when you need someone to talk to who will listen to your untold and/or unheard stories. Your story provides context for what is possible as you focus on finding clarity while blossoming in peace. The goal is to reconnect you to yourself and your source, in doing so, enable mindful connection with what matters. In collaboration, we will explore all the emotions going on inside of you, which will grow the energy for reconnection. In collaboration with you, we create a space that encourages slowing down, exploring, playing, questioning, and confirming what is within you. Providing a listening ear, without judgment and bias, as we learn and adapt in this journey of self-discovery to ensure you get the care you deserve. The best therapeutic approach is tailored to your needs; client-focused.

I carried out research on the effects of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on psychological and physiological health. I also completed my thesis on exploring the relationship between resilience and ACEs among Nigerian adults. This has allowed me to understand the importance of childhood experiences and being trauma-informed which allows me to adapt and find ways of working and helping my clients.
