About me

Hello!

Thanks for finding my page and having a curiosity about how I might be able to help you. It can be super hard to find a therapist, especially with the different types of therapy, the different titles that mental health care providers use and the variety of help offered. So well done for taking the first step in looking!

I currently work as a freelance psychologist, focusing on the practice of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). I have worked in the UK for both adult and child mental health services.

I completed an integrated undergraduate and masters degree at the University of Reading from 2013 to 2017. I then went on to complete a postgraduate certificate in Evidence Based Practice: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy in 2022. In 2024, I took up my training as an EMDR psychotherapist also. I have extensive experience working in various mental health services, such as private, public and charity sectors.

Telephone Consultation: Before you start therapy, it is often helpful to have a consultation so that I can answer any questions or queries you have about therapy. It also allows us to see if we are a good match, and that you feel comfortable talking with me. This conversation usually lasts about 15 minutes, over the telephone.

Video Sessions: Most of the therapy sessions I offer take place online, via Google Meets or Microsoft Teams. Online therapy allows you to have therapy in your own environment and takes the hassle away from having to commute to a clinic.

Face-to-face: If you feel that you would like to meet in person for your sessions, this can be arranged with you. Face-to-face therapy, can help people to feel comfortable and more connected. Sometimes, people request a few sessions face to face then change to online, once they have built a relationship with me.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
CBT: Cognitive behavioural therapyRecommended for those looking for practical support and accountability to change unhelpful thinking and behaviors.
EMDRRecommended for those dealing with trauma who want to process painful memories in a structured way to reduce their emotional impact.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is structured form of talking therapy. You and I would work together towards an agreed goal at the start of therapy. Therapy often help you to understand the developed and maintenance of your difficulty. If we can understand these things, we can work out how to make meaningful change for you that will have long lasting effects.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy consists of a gentle, guided and empathetic approach. It can, however, be challenging at times as CBT needs you to make commitments to change and take an active role in the therapy sessions.

EMDR helps people who hold unhelpful beliefs and memories that are impacting them in the present moment. This can vary in terms of unhelpful beliefs about themselves, the world around them or other people. The memories can relate to a significant traumatic event, multiple complex traumas, or clusters of ‘small t’ traumas. Small t traumas are stressful life events that are not life threatening, dangerous or violent, but they have had a big impact on us.
