About me

I am Carolina, an integrative psychotherapist based in Barcelona, curently completing a Master's Degree in Contemporary Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and Mentalization-based Treatment, as well as post-graduate specialization of Expert in Eating Disorders.

Before this, I spent around 20 years in the corporate professional environment - the last 7 years in healthcare - leading multi-cultural teams and facilitating complex problem-solving and conflict-resolution. With a passion and interest for introspection, I have spent the last decade with my own personal analysis with a professional psychoanalyst.

I work integratively, combining psychoanalytic depth with more practical approaches like mentalization and Acceptance and Compromise Therapy. What drives me towards this way of working? The belief that understanding without guidance to action, as action without comprehension, both fall short of lasting change and emotional regulation. In practice, it means I work with

  • attachment patterns and early relational trauma, visible in the context of eating disorders, but not limited to these,
  • sistemic relational difficulties that could have, for example, an impact on the self-esteem, and confidence and potent general anxiety triggers,
  • as well as with more specific professional difficulties like burnout, impostor syndrome, communication issues and in general career related challenges.

A former expat myself, twice, I understand elements like change anxiety, loneliness, sense of displacement or disorientation living abroad might bring.

I speak 4 languages fluently, and on a more personal note, 5 years ago I traded city life for the countryside outside of Barcelona. I love my morning walks with my dog, reading a good book and I enjoy sports, practicing table tennis or trail running as often as I can.

What to expect from me? Engagement, warmth, genuine interest and curiosity, attentive listening and support throughout the process.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
ACT: Acceptance and commitment therapyRecommended for those who want to stop fighting negative thoughts and learn how to live with more acceptance and focus on what really matters in life.
Psychodynamic therapyRecommended for those looking to explore their emotions deeply and understand how past experiences shape their present life.
Systemic therapyRecommended for those who want to understand how their relationships and environments influence their behavior and emotions, particularly within family or organizational systems.

You don’t need to know what’s wrong before reaching out. This is our journey to explore together.

My method is an integrative one combining

  • Contemporary Psychoanalysis - offering the depth of introspection and understanding
  • Attachment Theory - exploring how early relational patterns shape the way in which we relate today
  • Mentalization-based Treatment - helping to understand and name what we feel while we are feeling it
  • Emotional Systemic Psychotherapy - seeing emotions as a systemic organization where they flow, get stuck or get amplified in relations
  • Acceptance and Compromise Therapy - guiding towards action for today, even in the presence of difficult emotions

Here a few examples of how I work on specific areas of my specializations:

  • Old wounds that keep resurfacing: they resurface in many ways and forms, and in many contexts. Ultimately, they represent the root cause and the origin for our anxiety, professional turmoil, relationship struggles... And they are directly connected to our attachment styles. Both early relational trauma and attachment styles inform how we think, react and relate today. It is critical therefore to understand them with patience, at your own pace, with the right support and guidance. This is usually the first step for any other work we will be doing together.

  • A life abroad that doesn’t feel like home or that brings more challenge than you thought… We work to understand why you feel as you do, why your context looks as it does, and what is your "controllable" to control in this environment. Then we build a plan of action around it.

  • Emotions that feel too big, or overwhelming, or too difficult to name: under real stress, most people lose the ability to think about what they feel while they’re feeling it. Through mentalization, we rebuild that capacity, for your own mind, and for capturing others' intentions as they are. This allows you for calmer reactions, clearer relationships, a steadier version of you.

  • Anxiety. It does not happen randomly. It’s usually trying to protect you from something else, or warn you about something you haven’t let yourself look at yet. Once you know what is triggering it, how it repeats itself, how it shows up in your relationships and encounters, at the exact moment it happens, it stops informing your decisions. All this work will inform your action: now, tomorrow, next week.

  • The same relationship struggle, on repeat: different persons, different contexts, same fears and same reactions. These can be: fear of abandonment therefore avoidance; or fear of abandonment, therefore anxious attachment. Whatever it is, it is not a coincidence, it’s a pattern learned early, and running quietly. We start by understanding where it comes from, how it shows up in interractions, why it makes us relate as we do, and how we can break this repetitive pattern and adapt to people and contexts.

  • Career or personal storms. The "storm" is rarely the full story. It is more the "tip of the iceberg". Our work together will help understand what lays "into the deep waters" that shapes the storm today, how we live the storm in detail and how it impacts how we relate to our significant others, family or colleagues. We will progress towards perceiving our reactions right when we experience them, and we will figure out techniques that help you take action and change your reactions at the right time.

  • A team that’s stuck: a conflict gone cold, a problem that won’t progress - the fix usually isn’t in more meetings. It’s naming the one thing everyone can feel and nobody is saying. It is genuinely searching for what is generating the conflict or the conflict or the problem. It is building the right actions to solve the conflict or get back on track.

Experience

My experience has grown alongside more than a decade of intensive personal analysis, which is the part of my formation that most deeply shapes how I listen, relate, and understand the emotional life of others. Working through my own conflicts, fragmentation, and relational patterns has given me a way of meeting patients with depth, patience, and genuine human resonance.

I have also spent years exploring how people function in complex relational systems, especially in professional contexts. My advanced training in complex problem‑solving and continuous‑improvement group facilitation taught me to recognize unconscious dynamics, collective defenses, and subtle emotional processes that shape communication, leadership, and collaboration. This work naturally extends into my therapeutic practice, where I accompany adults navigating workplace tension, burnout, and relational conflict.

Education

My path began with a Psychology degree at the University of Bucharest, in a faculty shaped by CBT and Experiential approaches. A year studying in Santiago de Compostela expanded that foundation, bringing philosophy into my understanding of the mind and its conflicts.

My psychoanalytic formation has grown through more than a decade of intensive personal analysis, the experience that most deeply shapes how I listen and relate. I am now entering advanced training in Contemporary Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and MBT in Barcelona, alongside a program dedicated to Thinking and Practicing Psychoanalysis.

I am trained in Clinical Application of Early Relational Tauma and Attachment Theory and Emotional Systemic Psychotherapy and ACT (ongoing).

As part of my organizational background, I have also heavily trained and got certified in complex problem‑solving and continuous‑improvement group facilitation, work that sharpened my sensitivity to relational dynamics and emotional processes in professional settings.
