I was born in Germany and raised in the US, and moved to Berlin in 2015. Here, I sought space, freedom, and creativity, so I'm absolutely familiar with the challenges associated with finding community and choosing a path that lacks a clearly defined list of steps. It's worth saying that I'm also familiar with the particularities of living in Berlin - the city offers a lot of choice and flexibility, and well as opportunities for chaos!
I decided to pursue a career in psychological counselling by starting a Master's degree in 2018, and quickly fell in love with psychodynamic theories for the spontaneity I felt they left room for in the treatment process. I further developed my professional approach over the course of four years in a social work setting with young adults.
Beyond therapy, I'm interested in literature, the performing arts, and good coffee!!
It’s my experience that every person has access to a deep intelligence about what’s right for them, and I see it as my job to help clear any blocks that might be getting in the way of that. My process is intuitive, collaborative, and respectful of my clients’ autonomy. There are very few fixed rules, and I believe that therapists learn from their clients, too. I'm so often impressed by my clients and their strength, kindness, courage, and creativity!
In technical terms, my approach draws from various treatment modalities, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, IFS, ACT, and somatic therapy. For me, the process of providing therapy is one of continuously deepening my understanding of your inner and outer worlds through attentive, nonjudgmental listening. As we develop a shared language, we'll be able to examine what role your symptoms and painful patterns play in your life, opening up a space in which new and exciting choices can be made. I'd describe my communication style as warm but direct.
I hope it goes without saying that I welcome clients of any background or identity. I'm particularly experienced with issues around neurodiversity, queerness, and polyamory, but I'd always rather understand how you relate to a specific concept rather than make assumptions.
I've also experienced that though deep change takes time, meaningful progress can be made surprisingly quickly.
I offer a free online consultation to see if we're a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you!
