As an English speaking therapist based in Berlin I believe in a varied approach to mental health that uses aspects of many different fields and techniques.
Our therapy path will use varied approaches to mental health. There is no “one size fits all” method.
By rolling up our sleeves, we will take on the hard work of healing old traumas, implementing practical strategies to face your challenges, and achieve positive changes in your life.
A native of New York City, I earned my Undergraduate degree in Psychology, with a concentration in Neuroscience, at the University of Massachusetts, Boston,
Living in Berlin since 2016, I received a Master’s degree at the International Psychoanalytic University, in Clinical Psychology. My thesis explored a new approach to treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), combining art therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
It’s my goal to support and help you find strength and healing.
I take an eclectic approach to therapy. Every person has a story that effects who they are and how they relate to people around them. I want to find and use the best tools possible to help you learn and understand from your story, how to not let it define you, and how to move beyond what your past might have dictated for you.
I see therapy as a three layer approach, the top, or 'first', layer is made up of the things that cause you distress day to day; panic attacks, procrastination, catatonic states, conflicts, etc. We can start by tackling these issues with specific tips or tricks that can bring you relief in the moment.
The second layer is our internal dialog and thoughts. How do you talk to yourself? Is it harsh? Compassionate? Critical? Are you operating under any truths that no longer serve you? Is there any cognitive dissonance you're holding on to that causes anxiety and internal conflict? This is where we look at your relationship to yourself with compassion and without judgement.
The third layer is the deep dive, and we look at your family of origin and upbringing. What was the landscape and environment of your upbringing? Is there trauma in your family that you inherited and carry with you? What is the foundation that you are growing from? How did your early years shape how you relate to yourself and the world around you?
I see these layers building on one another and while I do not have a set schedule by which we will address these topics, we can use them as a guide to help you safely and with curiosity shed light on parts of the self that perhaps have not been looked at for a long time.
All patients start with a free 20 minute introductory session to see if we might work well together and if your needs fit my abilities. Then we would work in 50 minute sessions thereafter.
