About me

As a sex and relationship counsellor, my work is deeply informed by both my personal and professional journey. Over the course of my career, including work in sexual and reproductive health and sex education, I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals through some of the most intimate and vulnerable moments of their lives — from guiding patients through difficult health diagnoses to providing compassionate care in times of uncertainty. These experiences have shaped not only my approach to counselling but also my perspective on the complex intersection of love, sexuality, and identity. To talk about sex is never merely to discuss physicality—it’s to explore family, culture, gender, power, consent, religion, pleasure, and belonging; to explore who we are and who we aspire to be. By fostering open conversations on topics such as desire, trauma, parenthood, and sexual wellbeing, I hope to dismantle shame and help others navigate the evolving landscapes of intimacy, connection, and identity with honesty and compassion. To learn more about my work as a sex and relationship counsellor, you can visit my website: https://www.alexandra-suarez.com/

Approach

Treatment Approaches
CounsellingRecommended for those who want to talk through their emotional challenges with a professional in a safe, supportive environment.
GSRD (Gender, Sexuality & Relationship Diversity) TherapyRecommended for those seeking affirmative support and guidance while navigating the complexities of identity, sexuality, and relationships.
Sex therapyRecommended for individuals or couples who want help improving their sex life, intimacy, or overcoming sexual issues in a supportive environment.
My counselling approach is integrative, drawing from a range of psychological theories and practices to support your unique needs. By combining different frameworks, I help clients develop a deeper awareness of how their upbringing, family dynamics, and physiological states shape their inner world — particularly in relation to adversities, trauma, emotional regulation, and sexuality. Sex Counselling: We will explore your sexuality considering the biological, psychological, and social factors that shape it. Together, we will review medical factors that may be contributing to sexual difficulties, uncover how your autonomic nervous system responds to pressure and performance anxiety, and openly explore the role sexual scripts, personal experiences, religion, and culture have played in limiting you from fully embracing your sexual identity. Through this collaborative process, we’ll empower you to gain deeper insights, build resilience, and take actionable steps towards embracing your authentic sexuality. Couples Counselling: My work with couples is rooted in attachment theory, differentiation, and parts work—all of which help us understand the deeper emotional layers and internal dynamics that influence how we show up in our relationships. We begin by identifying and transforming the negative interaction cycles that often leave couples feeling stuck or disconnected. Through this process, we explore each partner’s emotional experience and unmet attachment needs—what drives the patterns beneath the conflict. Attachment theory offers a framework for understanding how early relational experiences shape how we seek closeness, manage distance, and respond to vulnerability in adult relationships.
