About me

I’m Sibel, a psychologist living in Budapest since 2020 (yes, I made the move during Covid times!). I was born and raised in Istanbul, Türkiye and in 2015, I moved to Bolu, one of the cities near Istanbul, where I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University in 2020. During my studies, I had the enriching opportunity to spend a semester at Károli Gáspár University through the Erasmus Exchange Program in Budapest. This experience expanded both my academic foundation and my personal worldview, giving me meaningful exposure to different cultures and perspectives.

Following this, I pursued a Master’s degree in Clinical and Health Psychology at Eötvös Loránd University, graduating in 2022. Throughout my academic journey, I gained hands-on experience through internships in clinical and health psychology settings, which helped shape my understanding and approach to counselling work. I also volunteered as a peer counselor and psychologist for international students, offering person-centered support while receiving regular supervision.

Living abroad has shown me how unique and complex the expat experience can be — full of uncertainty, challenges, and growth opportunities. I know firsthand what it’s like to start from scratch in a new country: redefining yourself, finding belonging, and building resilience along the way. Through my own journey of self-discovery, I’ve come to understand that challenges often open the door to deeper connections — both with yourself and with those around you.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
CBT: Cognitive behavioural therapyRecommended for those looking for practical support and accountability to change unhelpful thinking and behaviors.
Person-centred approachRecommended for those looking for a supportive, non-judgmental space where they can lead the conversation and explore their feelings at their own pace.
Positive psychotherapyRecommended for those who want to focus on building strengths, increasing happiness, and enhancing their overall well-being, rather than just focusing on problems.

I have a deep belief in human resilience and our incredible ability to grow — especially when we’re supported by a safe, compassionate space to explore who we are. When working with you, I primarily use techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Depending on the unique needs of the person I’m working with, I also incorporate approaches from Motivational Interviewing and Psychoeducation and Positive Psychotherapy, which I was trained in during my graduate studies.

In my practice, I have supported individuals dealing with a wide range of challenges—such as stress, anxiety, cultural adjustment, emotional regulation, relationship issues, and the complexities of starting over in a new environment. I also help people reconnect with their core values, embrace who they are, and find a sense of fulfillment and enjoyment in simply being themselves.

Currently, I offer online and in-person sessions for adults in both Turkish and English. I am committed to creating a warm, supportive, and collaborative space where you feel heard and empowered throughout your journey. If you’d like support as you navigate this journey, I’d be happy to accompany you in making sense of your experience, reconnecting with yourself and others, and strengthening your resilience.
