About me

Originally from the United States, I earned my degree in marriage and family therapy from the University of New Hampshire. I later moved to France, where I've been living or the last 11 years. Living abroad with a family and career has shown me how challenging it can be to adapt to a new culture. Most of the couples and families I see are bilingual and bicultural, and many speak numerous languages and have lived in several different countries. There are special considerations when working with intercultural couples and families. Parenting in another country can be especially difficult, as there are sometimes very different expectations of children and parents. Different beliefs about mental health and the role of mental health care come into play when deciding to see therapy. While the mix of cultures enriches lives, it can also present special challenges that a therapist must consider.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
Couples therapySupport for couples working through problems and who want to gain insight into the relational dynamics that contribute to the problem.
EFT: Emotionally focused therapyRecommended for couples or individuals who want to strengthen emotional connections in relationships by exploring feelings and attachment.
Family therapyRecommended for families who want to resolve conflicts, improve communication, and understand each other better within the family dynamic.
Systemic therapyRecommended for those who want to understand how their relationships and environments influence their behavior and emotions, particularly within family or organizational systems.

My degree is in marriage and family therapy, also known as systemic therapy. I lean toward an experiential approach, which aims to provide clients with new and therapeutic experiences. While it can be really helpful to have a cognitive understanding of our patterns and problems, living and feeling new experiences allow us to integrate new ways of relating to others, ourselves, and the world. Emotionally-Focused Therapy and Internal Family Systems are two systemic, experiental therapies that I often use.

I also tend to be very "client-centered," meaning that I put you and your goals first, rather than imposing my ideas on you. In other words, I will make suggestions, but they must feel right to you, and ultimately, the choice is yours. I am here to guide you and your loved ones, not to "fix" you, because you are not broken. You possess a wealth of resources and strengths that I will help you uncover.
