About me

Inside Dr. Jones’ 15 plus year academic and clinical training career, he attributes his calling toward the field of mental health as a “true alignment of vocation.” Dr. Jones stated that after many years in the theater, film, and television industry, “I finally listened to nudging from my soul and the deepest parts of my heart and pursued psychological work full-time.”

Dr. Jones attributes much of his professional growth to his clinical training and former extensive career as a professional young actor, teacher, playwright, and stage director. In the process of transitioning career fields, Dr. Jones specified, “My past career as a performing artist gave me a unique perspective on how to deeply understand and effectively work with creative and complex personalities and emotions. My life experiences prepared me well to really see people, relate to their afflictions, hear their life stories, and appreciate the deepest intricacies of human nature."

Dr. Jones received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Biola University, a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University and completed his PhD in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.

Dr. Jones is a licensed clinical psychologist in multiple states, as well as former Chair and Assistant Professor in the MA/PhD Clinical Psychology program at Pacifica Graduate Institute. In addition, in 2016 was awarded the APA Division 39 Multicultural Concerns Scholar Award. His clinical interests are contemporary psychoanalytic theory and practice (i.e., relational and intersubjective), Jungian psychotherapy approaches (e.g., individuation, persona, self, shadow work), multicultural psychology (e.g., ethnoracial/ethnocultural identity formation processes), creative imagination, expressive arts, and humanistic theoretical approaches (e.g., Maslow’s self-actualization /transcendence theories).

Dr. Jones is the co-developer of Integrative Depth Psychology® and Integrative Depth Psychology and Psychotherapy®. Integrative Depth Psychology establishes the theoretical components of the model, and Integrative Depth Psychology and Psychotherapy represents and supports the clinical training and treatment aspects of the model. Dr. Jones is a Member of the Society for Psychoanalysis & Psychoanalytic Psychology, Member of the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, Member of the American Psychological Association, Clinical Member of the American Psychoanalytic Association, and Ethics Committee Member of Los Angeles County Psychological Association.

Dr. Jones holds a certificate in Jungian Psychology in Clinical Practice from the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
Clinical psychologyRecommended for those who need help with diagnosing and treating more complex mental health issues, often involving assessments and evidence-based treatments.
Jungian therapyRecommended for those interested in diving deep into their unconscious mind to better understand themselves and grow emotionally.
Psychodynamic therapyRecommended for those looking to explore their emotions deeply and understand how past experiences shape their present life.

My approach to treating patients with multifaceted anxieties is deeply rooted in the foundational theories of depth psychology, established by pioneers such as Sigmund Freud, Carl Gustav Jung, William James, Abraham Maslow, and Carl Rogers. These figures have profoundly influenced my understanding of the psyche, and their contributions have been instrumental in shaping the methods I employ in my practice.

Depth psychology emphasizes the importance of exploring both the conscious and unconscious aspects of the mind. It acknowledges that anxieties often stem from unresolved conflicts, suppressed emotions, and unrecognized desires that reside in the unconscious. By delving into these hidden layers, I aim to uncover the root causes of my patients' anxieties and facilitate a process of healing and self-discovery.
