I began my practice in 1984 as a Social Worker. I returned to school 1992 and earned a PhD in Psychology in 1997 from The Center for Humanistic Studies and Union Institute. I specialize in working with adults of all ages, children, adolescents, couples and families. I have utilized ideas from Carl Jung, Deepak Chopra, Victor Frankle, Jack Kornfield PHD, Tara Brach and Dr. Phil McGraw. I particularly enjoy working with children utilizing play therapy. In what seems to be a magical process, children find a means to trust and resolve whatever issues they face. In working with teens, I have seen their angst and anger become a powerful tool to healing and wholeness.
I employ a variety of techniques such as cognitive restructuring, insight oriented inquiry, existential explorations, EMDR, mindfulness techniques, movement as medicine and traditional talk therapies. I incorporate writing, music, art, meditation and Yoga/movement as a way for one to identify with their struggles and find resolutions. I believe that we can change our lives as we change our thinking. At times we come to a place when our thoughts become unbearable, we feel overwhelmed and confused. When we are open to acknowledging our suffering we then become willing to explore our pain. I believe that transformation is not only possible it’s probable. I am a Certified EMDR practioner, a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, 1000 hour Certified Yoga Teacher, and a Certified Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
