Hello, my name is TaShawndra Govan and I am a licensed mental health counselor having graduated from Georgia State University in 2013. I have lived overseas for the past ten years and have extensive experience working with expats who are living and working in over 30 countries. I have also worked with clients who are residents in their respective countries who were not able to find local mental health professionals. I am currently located in South Africa; prior to this I lived in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, China and Turkey.
I am a culturally competent and trauma-informed mental health provider and advocate. I believe that cultural competency is central to helping individuals and families of color feel safe; providing space where concerns are not downplayed and symptoms are not misinterpreted.
I work with those who struggle with unhealthy parent-child relationships often stemming from a history of substance use, domestic violence, abandonment, neglect, grief/loss and other disruptive family patterns and behaviors. I facilitate parenting workshops and teacher training in addition to counseling sessions.
