About me

Hello and welcome. I’m Nusha, a clinical and health psychologist originally from California and now based in Europe, working with clients internationally. I came to this work through a deep curiosity about how people adapt to change, illness, and major life transitions. Over the past 15 plus years, I have worked across medical, academic, and private practice settings, supporting adults who often appear capable and high functioning on the outside while feeling unsettled, overwhelmed, or disconnected internally. I primarily work with adults navigating layered life transitions such as relocation, identity shifts, and chronic illness, especially when responsibility, expectations, or performance leave little room to pause and reflect. These experiences are not always dramatic or obvious, but they can quietly wear down clarity, confidence, and self trust over time. My work is integrative, direct, and deeply human. Therapy with me is collaborative and thoughtful, balancing emotional depth with practical support. We focus on understanding what is happening beneath the surface and creating steady, meaningful change that fits your real life. If you are in a complicated chapter and looking for experienced, grounded support, I would be glad to work together.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
Clinical psychologyRecommended for those who need help with diagnosing and treating more complex mental health issues, often involving assessments and evidence-based treatments.
Integrative therapy Recommended for those who prefer a flexible approach that combines different therapies to meet their unique needs.
Person-centered approachRecommended for those looking for a supportive, non-judgmental space where they can lead the conversation and explore their feelings at their own pace.
I use proven, evidence based methods to help people make meaningful and sustainable changes in their lives. My work is grounded in the biopsychosocial model, meaning I look at how your thoughts, emotions, body, relationships, and environment all interact and shape your well being. I draw from approaches such as Motivational Interviewing and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which are widely used in clinical care and supported by research. These tools help us clarify what matters most to you, understand what is getting in the way, and move forward in a way that actually fits your life rather than forcing change that does not last. In sessions, I am direct, warm, and realistic. I will listen carefully, but I will also be actively engaged with you. We will sit together in the hard parts, name what feels confusing or heavy, and work through it collaboratively. Therapy with me is thoughtful, honest, and human. There is room for reflection, emotion, insight, and even humor when it shows up naturally. The first phase of our work focuses on understanding what is bringing you in now and how your current challenges connect to your broader life story. Over time, we work toward building clarity, emotional steadiness, and practical strategies that support resilience and alignment, especially during periods of chronic illness, burnout, or major life change. If you are looking for grounded support that balances depth with practicality, I invite you to schedule a complimentary consultation to see if working together feels like the right fit.

Experience

1 year in practiceAbout 1 year at It's Complicated
I have been running my private practice in California since 2021 and continue to operate it alongside my work in the Netherlands, supporting clients internationally. I also bring 15+ years of experience working in hospitals and medical clinics, including integrated and specialty medical settings, which continues to shape how I work with clients today. My clinical focus centers on adults navigating chronic stress, identity shifts, and the emotional impact of chronic illness, especially within high responsibility and performance driven lives. I integrate clinical psychology and behavioral medicine using evidence based approaches that support meaningful, long term change rather than quick fixes. Alongside my clinical practice, I also teach and supervise future psychologists and physicians, consult with healthcare organizations, and provide training to medical providers on integrating mental health into everyday care. My work sits at the intersection of clinical practice, medical systems, and real life complexity.
