About me

I am a trained clinical psychologist from Izmir, Turkey. I have 5+ years of experience and over the last 3 years I run my own private practice. I work with disordered eating patterns, body image issues and anxiety. I use intuitive eating as an approach to work with disordered eating, binge eating and emotional eating patterns.

I also enjoy working with Turkish speaking expats.

My main approach is psychodynamic therapy, and I am inspired by existential and humanistic psychotherapy. I am also trained in EMDR. I conduct sessions in Turkish and English.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
Psychodynamic therapyRecommended for those looking to explore their emotions deeply and understand how past experiences shape their present life.

I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy. I believe the presenting symptoms have underlying roots and I choose to work with that root causes. Symptoms may change but, if not addressed, the underlying issues remain. The problems that I work with, eating problems, also have deeper roots. We address the symptom through intuitive eating, however I also want to focus on what is underneath. Thus, we talk about everything in therapy. Your dreams, old memories or favorite band can be our subjects in the sessions. Nothing is forbidden, nothing is nonsense in therapy. The psychotherapy process may take between a few weeks and a few years depending on the presenting issues.

I resemble psychotherapy process to a journey. The client is driving, they are leading the process. As the therapist, I am a companion in this journey. My expertise is my map, but this is essentially your journey. Change and transformation will come through self-discovery.

I am a good fit for you if you have problems about eating and body image and think these sentences are true for you:

-I try to cope my negative emotions through eating. -It is hard for me to accept my body as it is. -I am not compassionate towards myself and my body. -I am tired of yo-yo dieting. -I feel like I am in a fight with my body. -It is hard for me to realize my body's internal cues like hunger and satiety. -I don't enjoy exercising and only exercise to change my body. -I do not eat mindfully and usually do not enjoy the food. -Some foods are forbidden for me (not because of health reasons). -I always think about what I should be eating and spend most of my time on that. -I postpone the things that I want to do until I reach my 'ideal' weight and body. -I feel anxious and my relationship with food and my own body increases my anxiety.

I am also a good fit for you if you are a Turkish speaking expat living abroad.
