About me

After graduating from Istanbul Bilgi University’s Department of Psychology, Can Toğa was accepted into the Adult Track of the Clinical Psychology Master’s Program at Işık University. During his master’s studies, he saw clients under psychoanalytically oriented supervision and completed his hospital internship as a trainee psychologist at Moodist Hospital. He completed his master’s degree with honors by writing his thesis project titled “Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Major Depressive Disorder from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Perspective” and earned the title of “Clinical Psychologist.”

To further his theoretical knowledge, he attended the “Introduction to Psychoanalysis Seminars” organized by the Istanbul Psychoanalysis Association. He received both the Basic and Advanced Level Dynamic Therapy trainings from Specialist Psychologist Hakan Kızıltan. He completed the theoretical part of the “Rorschach Test and TAT Seminar (Adult)” training, organized by the Rorschach and Projective Tests Association and conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrem Erdem Atak. He also attended the “Introduction to Psychosomatics Seminars” at the Istanbul Psychoanalytic Psychosomatics Association and the “Introduction to Psychoanalysis Conferences” at the Istanbul Psychoanalysis Association.

In addition to his theoretical training, he has participated in group and individual supervisions to enhance his practical experience and has undergone his own psychoanalytic psychotherapy process. Currently, he continues his sessions with clients using the psychoanalytic approach.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
Psychodynamic therapyRecommended for those looking to explore their emotions deeply and understand how past experiences shape their present life.

According to dynamic psychotherapy, a person’s psychological pain and the source of their relational problems stem from situations outside of their conscious awareness. The essential intervention in dynamic psychotherapy is for these situations, which affect our lives, to be analyzed by a therapist and brought to the client’s awareness. What lies outside our awareness can be accessed during sessions through memories, thoughts, positive or negative feelings toward the therapist, dreams, and behaviors that come to the individual’s mind. Therefore, in dynamic therapy, there is no topic that “should not be talked about or focused on.” At times, it may be difficult to talk or to continue sessions, and these are also important issues to work on in therapy and should be shared with the therapist. With this psychotherapy approach, issues such as depression, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, somatic disorders, anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, relational problems, personality disorders, or the desire to embark on a journey of self-discovery can be addressed.
