I’m Diogo, a Portuguese therapist fluent in English. I’m passionate about my work and committed to creating a safe space for each person’s self-discovery and growth, tailoring my approach to their unique needs.
I am a clinical and sports psychologist from Lisbon, Portugal, holding a master's degree from ISPA University in Lisbon. My primary specialties include intervention in depression and anxiety, as well as exploratory therapy, providing a safe space for self-discovery and development. I am also experienced in addressing performance-related issues, drawing on my background in sports psychology, as well as working with assertiveness, goal-setting, motivation, and self-esteem, among other areas. My primary aim is to ease suffering and support people in restoring balance, enhancing their overall quality of life through an integrative approach that uses the tools best aligned with each patient’s needs. In the long term, I seek to strengthen my patients' self-esteem, help them take control of their lives, and guide them on their self-discovery journey.
I follow an integrative approach, combining a humanistic therapeutic relationship with tools drawn from cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and other evidence-based methods. I am calm and patient, yet also directive when necessary. I believe that our feelings offer a unique window into how we perceive the world and, through them, we can better understand ourselves. I also recognize that, at times, it can be difficult to connect with or express emotions. That is why I strive to build a relationship based on trust, acceptance, and understanding, creating a safe space for every patient to feel without fear or judgment. I also see art as a powerful medium for expressing emotions, whether through writing, music, painting, dancing, or any other form of creativity. Artistic expression can open doors to parts of ourselves that conversation alone cannot reach. For this reason, I like to create space for art within my therapeutic work whenever it aligns with the patient’s needs and values.
I have two years of supervised clinical practice working with children, teenagers, and adults. Currently, I work both online and in person, in a clinical setting, with teens and adults, addressing a wide range of concerns. Over the past six years, I have worked in sports psychology, in individual and group settings, with both teams, coaches, and athletes. I also have experience in an organizational social work setting, supporting children and teenagers in vulnerable situations.
I have a master's degree in Clinical Psychology from ISPA university in Lisbon, and am registered member of the Portuguese board of psychologists. I've studied in Amsterdam during my Bachelor's and, through my academic education, was exposed to a multitude of clinical approaches. Throughout and beyond my academic training, I have completed numerous short and long-term courses in areas such as grief intervention, gender and sexuality, psychedelics, domestic violence, alcohol-related issues, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), humanistic psychotherapy, integrative psychology, and sports psychology, among others. I am committed to continuous learning and make it a priority to study the topics most relevant to my patients’ needs, ensuring I stay up to date with the latest research and provide the most effective tools available. My approach is highly flexible and adaptable, allowing me to tailor each therapeutic process to the unique circumstances, goals, and values of the person I am working with.
