About me

I am an accredited psychotherapist and a professional supervisor. Barrister turned therapist: I enjoyed representing people in court but I also wanted to understand them better, to help them understand themselves. Choosing to re-train in psychology felt daunting in 2010 but led to finding my professional tribe. Therapy: I work with adults and deliver therapy online or walking outdoors. I have Signal, Zoom, etc. for those living further afield in Vienna, Kuwait, Malaysia and China. Issues: As well as anxiety and depression, I have worked with addiction, adult survivors of child abuse, adverse childhood experiences, alcohol dependence, bereavement, codependency, employment problems, polyamory, prescription drug dependency, self-esteem and trauma. Outside of therapy: As a life-long theatre-lover, I was delighted to be recruited in 2019 to perform for the Donmar Warehouse theatre. I have subsequently performed on four stages in London. In 2026 I joined The Old Vic theatre storytelling workshops. Performing arts led to a masters course in 2021 in Creative Health at UCL, studying the contribution that arts and nature make to good health and health recovery. I live inside Hampstead Heath, so my back garden is 800 acres! Walking therapy provides psychotherapy with health bonuses: exercise, time in nature, bilateral stimulation and opthamological health. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, I’m proudly internationalist with personal connections to Sweden, Ireland, Turkey, Singapore, Pakistan, Austria and I’ve worked abroad in Malaysia and Sudan.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
Integrative therapy Recommended for those who prefer a flexible approach that combines different therapies to meet their unique needs.
Nature therapyRecommended for people who feel rejuvenated by nature and want to incorporate the healing power of the outdoors into their therapy process.
Psychotherapy Recommended for those who want to work through emotional or mental health challenges by talking with a trained psychotherapist.
Authenticity is key to therapeutic success and so I am more or less an open book. You can read about me in the NYC Daily Post: https://nycdailypost.com/2024/09/02/entertainment/the-path-is-my-destination-inspiring-life-martin-fisher/ Eclectic experience: As well as the health sector, I've worked in the statutory sector, voluntary sector, legal services, the arts and I've studied international development. What to expect from me: I'll put all of myself into our therapy, including professional experience in social work, law and management. In these roles I was required to be interventionist, so I am not the sort who sits quietly and only offers affirmations. Expect to be challenged, and channelled towards your stated goals. Attachment theory: My theoretical approach is strongly influenced by attachment theory, which is rooted in evolutionary theory and has, I consider, surpassed the level of proof. Social justice: I am an inveterate prison reformer, and more recently a busy activist for the climate and Palestine. I advocate for the de-medicalisation of mental distress, and I respect there are diversities of gender, sexuality and relationship styles (GSRD). End of life: I also support the right to choose the timing of one’s death, have trained in supporting end of life preparation, and would happily accept referrals for grief / posthumous dignity therapy.
