About me

I moved from my native UK a few years ago and now live in northern Spain where I have an online practice as a counsellor and supervisor working with clients from all over the world. As a young woman I worked in radio and television before retraining as a secondary school teacher in my forties. I decided to combine a counselling training with my teaching and loved it so much I went on to do a post-graduate diploma in counselling, which led to accreditation and then to a training in clinical supervision.
Since then I have worked as a counsellor with both adults and teenagers from all economic backgrounds, in a variety of settings.
As a supervisor I work with counsellors and psychotherapists as well as other professionals who may carry a psychological burden in the workplace and need a confidential setting within which to process the impact of this work on their wellbeing. I am a mother of grownup children. I walk in the mountains, I ride my dear old horse (gently!) and I swim in the sea.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
CounsellingRecommended for those who want to talk through their emotional challenges with a professional in a safe, supportive environment.
Integrative therapy Recommended for those who prefer a flexible approach that combines different therapies to meet their unique needs.
Trauma informed careRecommended for those who have experienced trauma and need a safe, supportive space to heal at their own pace.

COUNSELLING The foundation of the counselling I offer is based on relationship with you, the client, the human to human connection. In an age of selfhelp books and AI it may be tempting to think of them as substitutes for the healing power of being truly heard and witnessed by another human being. I do not believe this to be so. I trained as an ‘integrative’ counsellor, based on person-centred values, and I continue to draw on a variety of different theories and therapeutic ideas in my work. With each individual, some of these ideas will be more helpful than others and I do not have a ‘one size fits all’ approach. I believe it is you, the client, that comes first, not the theory. I often work somatically, which is to say I encourage you to notice what is going on in your body. This is particularly true when working with those suffering with physical and psychological symptoms of trauma. Responses such as self-harm, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, suicidality, dissociation, and panic attacks are all too common. I have solid experience in this field and an informed understanding of the impact of trauma on the brain and the body. With so many ongoing scientific discoveries there is always more to learn and I actively seek out trainings. I have worked extensively with teenagers and adults of all ages, from a wide variety of economic and social backgrounds, accompanying many individuals through challenging life transitions. And now that I am living away from my native country I draw on my personal experience as an expat to support others living away from ‘home’ who want to explore their own uncertainties and sense of displacement. Our conversation will prompt insight about old ingrained habits; the impact life has had on your mind and body; your strengths and how best you want to use them to lead the life you want to lead. The work is often challenging, but it can be very exciting. My hope is that you look forward to your counselling sessions. SUPERVISION I believe that good supervision is the bedrock of strong, ethical counselling. I have myself benefitted, and continue to benefit, from excellent supervision throughout my years working as a counsellor. I have been supported, challenged and educated beyond measure. As a supervisor myself I offer a space for growth, colleague to colleague, a place to thrash out the difficulties of the job, to explore the triggers you encounter, to educate where relevant, and to encourage you in this delicate, challenging and at times lonesome work. I work with counsellors and psychotherapists at all stages of their careers. I also offer supervision to other professionals who are psychologically impacted by the work they do.
