About me

I am an Irish Psychologist who lives in Rostock, Germany. I have completed all my training in Ireland but all my professional work has emphasised inclusive practise across diverse groups.

I believe we are shaped by our experience and I am very interested in the idea of what has life taught you?

  • Has life taught you to trust that people are generally good, or has life taught you to be weary or even fearful of others
  • Has life taught you that you will persevere or has life taught you that you need to struggle for your survival.
  • Has life taught you that you are enough or has life taught you need to prove yourself in order to be loved.

Life has very difficult moments, painful and maybe even unfair moments too. Although we cannot always control that or remove these experiences we can learn how to respond to those experiences, and be kind to ourselves during those experiences.

Most things in this world exist on a spectrum and we must find balance in order to find our inner peace. I work on this everyday, and some days that balance is harder to find and other days it can feel very easy. Mental health is never something we achieve, but rather it is a continuous process of checking in and being mindful of how we are doing.

Approach

I am trained as a person centred therapist which emphasises that the individual is the expert of their experience. In therapy we can create a space together to reflect on that experience in a non-judgemental space.

In life I believe we ultimately want to feel safe and to feel seen. And oftentimes when we don't feel safe or seen we develop coping strategies to help us. Particularly when we go through difficult experiences we find ways to manage and to survive. These coping strategies are essential but they often stay around long after they are necessary. Coping mechanisms don't age as we age, and often we develop them at a very early point in life and our mechanisms to manage can stay stuck in that time.

Through therapy we can go back and understand our pain and find ways to meet our needs in a more effective and helpful way. I believe through therapy we can build tools and emphasise our inner strength in the context of the supportive relationship.
