I am an experienced counselor with 20 years of experience in the mental health, co-occurring disorders, substance abuse treatment, trauma, grief, and oncology counseling fields. I have experience providing counseling services to a variety of individuals and groups, from different nationalities and cultures, including adults struggling with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, unresolved grief, addictions, stressor-related disorders and more recently cancer survivors and their loved ones.
I worked as a psychologist in Brazil for 9 years in a hospital providing brief therapy and in my private practice. I currently live in Pennsylvania, USA and work in a private practice. During the past 11 years, I have worked in medication assisted treatment, inpatient treatment for co-occurring disorders and substance use disorders, and with a cancer support community.
I have a bachelors degree in Psychology from Universidade FUMEC (Brazil) and a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I am a licensed professional counselor and a national certified counselor (NCC).
I use an integrative approach being conscious of clients in their totally, taking into consideration the physical, spiritual, and psychological dimensions of their human experience. Also, considering the individual's culture. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused and Existential Therapy. At times, Motivational Interviewing and some techniques from Somatic Experiencing.
