About me

What started as a solo adventure hiking the Camino de Santiago unexpectedly led me to my partner, and eventually to swapping the flat Dutch landscape for life among the Swiss mountains.

Hi, my name is Sanne van Dijken and I’m a Dutch- and English-speaking psychologist living in Zürich. I work with children, adolescents, and adults who are navigating challenges like anxiety, neurodiversity, emotional overwhelm, low self-esteem, and study related struggles.

I grew up and studied in Groningen, a vibrant city in the north of the Netherlands. There, I earned Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and finished my Masters study. I believe in combining research-based insights into therapy while tailoring the approach to your needs.

Outside of work, you’ll most likely find me with a book in one hand, and a cup of coffee in the other. When I’m not reading, I like doing yoga, going for runs along the lake of Zürich or hiking in the mountains. Besides that, I love being creative, listening to a good podcast or my favorite music.

Approach

Treatment Approaches
ACT: Acceptance and commitment therapyRecommended for those who want to stop fighting negative thoughts and learn how to live with more acceptance and focus on what really matters in life.
CBT: Cognitive behavioural therapyRecommended for those looking for practical support and accountability to change unhelpful thinking and behaviors.
Holistic approachRecommended for those who want to address their mental health through a balanced focus on mind, body, and spirit.

As a psychologist, I see my role not as giving all the answers, but as someone who walks alongside you, helping you untangle what feels stuck and figure out what matters most to you. My work is grounded in compassion, open-mindedness and genuine collaboration. I believe therapy is most effective when it feels like a partnership, where we bring together your lived experience and my psychological expertise to navigate life’s challenges.

My therapeutic approach is integrative. I use tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and systemic thinking, with room for a holistic view. Whether we’re working on managing strong emotions, addressing low self-esteem, improving executive functioning, or navigating family dynamics, my aim is to provide you with clear, practical support that fits your unique situation.

If you’re considering asking for help, I’m here for you. You don’t have to have everything figured out to get started. No matter your reason for seeking support; whether things feel too much, not enough, or just unclear, you’re welcome here.

I offer an inclusive, LGBTQIA+ friendly space where everyone is welcome as they are.

In my belief, therapy works best when it’s a true collaboration, your input matters every step of the way. Openness and honesty help us shape a process that fits you, so I encourage you to share what feels helpful and what doesn’t. Together, we’ll adjust and grow to find what works best for you.
