I'm Mariana and I am based in Lisbon, but have lived in Manchester for a couple months in 2022. Apart from psychology, I am very passionate about sports and music. I surf since I'm 14 and studied piano during my school years and was a teacher of both activities while in college. This gave the opportunity to get in contact with people from different age groups, and to work on my empathy, patience and active listening skills.
I graduated my masters program in December 2024 and have been working not only in clinical psychology but also in other different fields outside mental health care, which have allowed me to expand my set of social and professional skills, showing me the different challenges that different professional choices and jobs carry. Living abroad has also allowed me to get first hand experience about being an expat, creat connections with people from different cultures, and get integrated in a totally different environment from the one I was used to.
As a therapist, I believe that a person is so much more than a personality or agglomerate of characteristics. Each and all of us is unique, and so, each person searching therapy deserves and is worthy of having a personalised therapeutical approach, based on what they present and their background. Based on fundamental values of change and empathy and rooted on the empirical and theoretical knowledge, the therapy process should be "tailored" to you, your needs and goals.
I believe that change is always possible, even if it requires a great amount of effort. My job and my mission is to facilitate the change process and help guiding you along the way.
Being a therapist is a privilege and a responsibility that I commit to and try to honor everyday.
