Hello and welcome. My name is Agris I am clinical psychologist from Latvia. During our lifetime, we face a lot of different difficulties that can create stress and frustration and prevent us from feeling happy. Some difficulties sometimes recur throughout the life, which prevents us from moving on to the goals we have set, and at other times even stop life entirely. Such life challenges can be eased by talking about them in a counseling session where you can look at your difficulties in a broader context, get more clarity about them, and live a more conscious and meaningful life.
Counseling sessions provide a safe and respectful environment in which clients have the opportunity to talk about their feelings, fears, and experiences, thereby reducing their emotional distress. During the counseling sessions, I offer my clients a supportive and empathetic conversation, digging into their difficulties and looking for authentic feelings that underlie these difficulties. In a counseling session, by talking about the experiences that shape our reality today, we can more successfully understand our behavioral patterns and build a more conscious and meaningful future. By exploring our world of feelings and emotions, we can get more clarity about our lives and feel a stronger sense of freedom. I would describe my counseling style as empathetic, supportive, and oriented toward feeling exploration.
In my opinion, one of the essential objectives of the counseling process is to have a stronger feeling of joy in life, because what is more important in this life than the sense of joy and happiness that each person aspires to? Launching an open conversation about your life and difficulties can be challenging and requires a lot of courage. At the same time, it's the first step to changing something in your life and getting closer to your goals.
I graduated from the University of Latvia and received a master's degree in clinical and health psychology. In my study process, I have academically focused on topics such as personality traits, depression, attachment theory, and emotion regulation difficulties. As a psychologist, I feel comfortable working with anxiety, depression, emotion management skills, relationship difficulties, sexuality issues, self-esteem, and grief processing. In my professional training, I have learned psychological counseling based on the humanistic psychology approach, which primarily emphasizes unconditional acceptance and respect, the desire to grow and change, and empathy, which serves as the foundation for any therapeutic relationship. Psychoanalytic theories and psychodynamic therapy have also played a significant role in my psychology career, which I continue to study after graduating from university. The principles of psychoanalytic and humanistic psychology theories are the approaches I feel closest to. My career as a psychologist has been inspired by such authors of psychological theories as N. McWilliams, C. Rogers, H. Kohut, J. Borisenko, L. Hay, and many others.
