Logotherapy

Logotherapy (founded by Viktor E. Frankl) is based on existential analysis and its ideas stem from existential philosophical tradition.

The premise of logotherapy is that the primary motivation of humans is to find meaning in life. Even in misery, the search for meaning can provide relief to suffering. Mental health issues (e.g. anxiety or depression) can be ascribed to a lack of personal meaning and purpose in life. Through treatment, logotherapy aims to awaken an individual’s personal responsibility, find one’s identity and place in the world, and help the individual pursue what truly matters.
