It's Complicated

Find therapists practicing MI: Music and Imagery

Music and Imagery (MI) is a therapy approach that deliberately uses music prepared by a guide or presenter to elicit sensory and emotional reactions from the listener.

It is a psychodynamic and multimodal therapy that includes music listening while the patient is in a deeply relaxed state to generate imagery, memories, and sensations to aid in the client's understanding of life's challenges from a comprehensive standpoint. The purpose of a Music and Imagery (MI) session is to support the client’s exploration of consciousness and inner experiences, followed by integration. This approach of therapy is for clients with wide-ranging difficulties, including those who have severe mental health problems and other conditions.
