About It's Complicated

In 2019, two therapists set out to tackle a complicated problem.

The psychiatrist Carl Jung once wrote that, “Nobody, as long as he moves about among the chaotic currents of life, is without trouble”. One does not have to be a therapist, though, to realize that life is complicated. But finding the right therapist, who you can build a strong relationship with, shouldn’t have to be. This is the founding principle of It’s Complicated.Since our start, we've helped over 30,000 clients and counting, offering thousands of free crisis support hours, and built thriving therapy communities in Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Munich, and Athens.

How to find a therapist who speaks Georgian

Regardless of your location or language proficiency, you can connect with a therapist who understands your cultural background and communicates in a language you're comfortable with. This inclusivity ensures that everyone, regardless of geographical location or linguistic differences, can access the support they deserve. We also understand that there are many reasons why you might feel more comfortable with a counsellor who shares similar demographics. If you have specific preferences for your therapist, you can use our built-in therapy search filters to find the right fit for you. Search for Georgian-speaking therapists by filtering by language in the search tool here in our directory of licensed professionals and discover other filter options such as:

  • gender identity
  • religion
  • ethnic background
  • sexual orientation
  • or therapeutic approach

Should I do therapy in my native language?

The opinions on the topic language and therapy are varied, but roughly speaking, the theories can be split into two categories: Those that claim non-native therapy to be less effective and less emotional than therapy in your mother tongue, and those which say non-native therapy might be more analytical than native therapy. Like with so many other criteria when looking for a therapist, it’s good to ask yourself if you need someone who resembles you or if it’s enough to find someone who simply shares aspects of your cultural experience. In the end, more than anything else, it’s the therapeutic relationship and rapport that makes for successful therapy. Read more about doing therapy in your native language here.
